What kind of console?

I'm going to buy a console for my 5 year old. I was thinking the Wii might be best - maybe less eye candy but more interactive with the nunchucks. Any reason not to? Are Sony and Xbox going to come out with their own versions? I'd most interested in getting games with controllers that make you move more than your thumbs. Like guitar hero or dance revolution.

Only reason not to get the Wii is that the kid might throw the controller.

For your 5 year old, the Wii is the way to go.

It sounds like you already decided on Wii. It's market will be better for his age group too because it doesn't require HDTVs, it has the GC library, and there's going to be a bunch of all ages games from Nintendo.

I don't know of any imitation controllers from Sony/MS. I think Nintendo is going to protect their controller more this time (Sony's controller is basically the SNES + N64's analog and rumble).

Wii is hands down the best system for any kid 10 or younger.

Buy all three! You're safe that way, and then let your kid choose which system he would like.... return the other two or better yet, give them to me! =)
