save your money chi. if the only reason you want a new rig is to go amd, you'll be dissapointed at the lack of performance increase you'll get w/ $350.

Dell, or my just-to-hold-me-over-til-I-can-afford-to-build-a-fullblown-HTPC PC: Antec Aria, AMD 2000+ - 2200+, nForce2 w/ IGP mobo and 256/512 RAM. (I have extra HDD and optical drives)

What do you mean by a PC? If you just need components, $350 will get you a sweet system. If you need a case too, well, we're talking budget system. If you need a case + perheprials that don't suck, $350 is streatching but still doable. If you need a monitor too, you'll have to settle for a slow system (that's still great for simple stuff like browsing/word processing, etc.).

Memory has gone up about 30-40% in price during the last 3 weeks. $64 for 512MB will get you memory you shouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole thesedays, unless we're talking after MIR (best buy has a 512 stick by PNY/Spektek for $50 after MIR this week).

After taxes and other nicknacks..., even an advertised $299 will be closer to $400. But still, that's probably the best bang for the buck. Also, did you need a monitor ?

at newegg i personally dont get taxed.... so tax could be not a factor..... also not much shipping in some cases but newegg is getting away from the free shipping stuff
