What kind of career path in Quality Assurance (QA) is there?

Just wondering. I have a preliminary phone interview tomorrow for the position of QA Analyst so I thought that I'd get some input on where the career path could lead.

In all honesty I'm not big on test cases and all that, but it'd probably help if I knew more about the breadth of the position and a future in it. Thanks!

I think it depends how you approach it. If you're simply given an app and told to use it as a user and then report problems, it seems fairly dead end. If you're getting into the meat it of and writing software to attack the program, then you will not just be a QA guy but also requiring software development skills and engineering to do it, so it doesn't need to be dead end.

It's a pretty dead end job, I wouldn't apply for any QA positions unless there's a chance u can switch over to software development...

Otherwise the highest you can probably go is QA manager...

im a qa analyst now, but i do automated testing so to an extent theres a bit of code writing. You could move up to QA manager, and i guess if you're really good, head of qa...hehe but honestly i don't think heres much room for growth. Im gonna stick it out for a year here, and try to switch over to dev.

This position woudln't be in nyc would it?
