Hi there!

Do any of you guys know what kind of barebone this is?

i think that's an Apex case

I see. Thanks for your reply... so eh, that means that from the outside, it's not possible to see what kind of mainboard comes with it, since it's very custom built? I know it has a i7 860 CPU, 4Gb DDR3 RAM and an added ATI Radeon 5550 graphics card..

Yes, it is a custom build so there is no way to know what mini-ITX motherboard was used, or what other parts were used.

Also, the Apex power supplies that come with their cases do not get good reviews.

Those are old parts and this is a $50 case so don't pay too much for it.

Thanks for the warning. I'm about to pay 300 euro's for it...too much?
I thought i7 is still pretty good? I'm just wondering about the mainboard. There is a picture of the back on the sellers site though. Possible to find out what mainboard is in there from that? Probably not...

What would you be using this for? It's not a great mix of parts for either gaming or general use.

That Core i7 is 2 generations old, from before Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge. It's slower, uses more power and runs hotter. The video card is almost useless for gaming and is also 5xxx instead of 7xxx series.

For gaming, depending on budget you'd want an i3 or i5 CPU not i7. You'd want a better video card like a 6770.

For most general use, a Sandy Bridge dual-core Pentium and its built-in graphics are fine. That would use a _lot_ less power than the i7 + 5550.

Depending on prices in your area, 300 euros might not be a terrible price, but it's old used parts not new parts with a warranty. If it's being sold as new, then it's dusty old "new" parts from the back of the warehouse.

Thanks for the warning, but the i7 860 gets good reviews regarding low powerconsumption. It is a second hand computer I know that. I'm planning to buy it second hand..

it got good reviews back then about low power consumption. the game has changed.

if you're gonna disregard everyone's good advice, then why ask the question? it sounds like you're just looking for someone to back your decision that you've already made.

I'm not disregarding, I'm argumenting. Perhaps I should have said at the beginning that it involved a second hand system, which I did though before you told me the game has changed regarding power consumption etc. DUHH! The game changes when a computer is second hand. I'm not a retard, we all know it changes continuously.

I also note, I did not disregard EVERYONE'S advice, since DaveSimmons said it might not be a terrible price. I bought the system. The motherboard turns out to be a Gigabyte H55N-USB3. It turns out to be an exceptionally fast little machine for a second hand one. But I guess that's a relative thing.

I thank you all for trying to help me.

i7-860 is worth $150 just by itself. In a pc it is easily worth $300 usd. But the problem is, that's not what I consider a "PC". For 300 euro / $375 you can probably do better. The problem with that system is that its a 4 core 8 thread chip that can be easily overclocked, but in that enclosure it just doesnt make much sense. The enclosure just doesnt make much sense for that much computing power. If you want a system like that then stick a dual core in there and run off the IGP. If you want to game and / or overclock then get a mid atx tower.
