What kind of a root can possibly cost $18,000?

I didn't have time to ask questions, because we had to get on the street car, but last time I was in S.F., in ChinaTown, I saw some kind of a root that had an $18,000 price tag attached to it.

What is this, what's it do, and why does it cost so much?

Yes, it was about a foot and a half long, and had a few branches. Ginseng, at least the good stuff sells for $500 - $600 per pound, but this might have weighed 2lbs.

That's acutally a very good point - at least they aren't (illegally) killing endangered animals for some trivial part of it.

LOL

Asian medicine (most) works. Why else do you think developed countries like the US and Euros are having herbal crazes?

Not to brag, but the Chinese have been using utensils to eat way before the Caucasian nations thought of using bread to scoop up food.

Not to say that asian medicine doesn't work, but it's popularity probably has less to do with its effectiveness and more to do with it's trendiness.

I mean seriously, who better to accept some kind of off the wall medical solution than some crackpot celebrities?
