Hitler didn't rip anything off here, the Iron Cross was in use in Germany since the early 1800s.

That cross was used in may places prior to that, just like the eagles and banners that were used from Roman era.

That is not my point. It was a military decoration in Germany before Hitler came to power. Hitler didn't appropriate anything WRT this symbol, he simply continued using what Germany had been using up to that point (and added a swastika to it).
