You forgot to mention Flash support. Thats why I got rid of mine. I couldnt stand that every other website I went too didn't work because of the lack of Flash.

Also, speaking of Flash, thats another thing that pisses me off at Apple. Adobe has apparently made Flash possible on the iPhone/Touch but can't put it on the iPhone because Apple will not allow it to be ported over or something...poor decision in my opinion.

Wanna give some examples of what you need to multitask?

Do apps / programs hold their place if you skip from one to the other? On my G1, if I'm in the middle or writing an email and I get a text, I can hop to my text messaging without having to save a draft or anything, then when I'm done, I can re-open my email program and my email will be there waiting for me. If the iPhone can act similarly, then I see no reason why multitasking is a such a gripe with the iPhone.

Yeah, well Flash is fucking terrible and I can only imagine how poorly it would run on a phone. Adobe wants information about low level stuff in the software, which Apple isn't willing to give up and is a big reason why Flash is poor on MacOSX as well. They really need to come up with something better with the coming onslaught of mobile devices. Look at Anand's laptop/netbook tests and see how Flash fucking murders battery life. Flash is turning into Acrobat 2.0 in how terrible it is. Unfortunately, Microsoft can't really push Silverlight like they'd want to without getting sued.

I don't understand the iTunes hate, I plug in my Touch and it syncs what I have said up. It's whatever as a media player, I don't even use it for that. But for syncing it's the easiest programs I've used, it's relatively quick to sync, and never crashes. Also it has by far the best smart playlist feature I've seen. One I've seen in a program that syncs with a phone/PMP any ways. Could it be better? Sure, but there's nothing wrong with it. Anymore I don't even have to touch it, I plug my shit in and it does it's thing. Using smart playlists I don't even have to do shit to get new tunes I want to sync.

You can't understand why people hate having to run a full featured program like that just to do a simple sync? Nothing wrong with it? I'm not even saying its crap, but there's plenty wrong with iTunes (like having to install Quicktime). It has improved a lot from before, but its still an annoyance.

This is my biggest gripe with my iPhone. They have some reaqson for not allowing flash on an iPhone.

For those that think it is fragile and don't want one, grab an OtterBox case.

Yes, it does save your exact spot. Same with text messaging.

The cost and the contract.

I am paying less than $10 a month for prepaid cell phone service. would i pay at least 60 bucks more just to have internet on my phone? I prefer blackberrg before iphone.

My biggest issue with a device like these is that I'd run out of battery too much. If I got an iPhone, I would have to have an extended battery. Mophie makes one that doubles as a case (although they apparently can't figure out how to do the same thing with their Touch version...), as well as offering fairly close to double the battery life.

I'm not entirely sure where people are getting that iPhones are really fragile. Get a screen cover, and a decent case and don't worry about it. Tons of options.

Yeah, I have had a 3G and a 3GS both since their original launch date and neither one of them has a single scratch on them.

For me it is a life unblemished by the purchase of anything made by Apple Computer.

Then why the gripes about multitasking? Are there some apps which don't save their place or something? Or do people want to be able to do things while on a call?

Crazy. I tried one of these things out at the Apple store when I was in SF last year and I wanted to throw the thing against the wall, it was so frustrating and annoying.

Well, I'm the reverse. I detest using my work Blackberry when replying back to emails. I'd rather using the touchscreen on my iPhone. I can type faster and the buttons aren't as cramped.

I don't understand why the old models are still so expensive. It's like >$200 for a used 2g.

That is not a function of the phone. It is a function of the network. So what you really mean to say is that the AT&T network can send texts or browse the internet while on a call whereas the Verizon network cannot. Has nothing to do with iPhone or Droid beyond the networks they are on. You can use most any application on my storm while on a call as long as that application does not need to access the network to run.

Because its Apple, and you're paying for the high quality, super functional, stylish name brand image.

My roommates laptop broke so I went to BB (they had deals that beat Newegg...) with him and some friends. I forgot how ridiculously priced those things are until I ran into the $2.3k+ Macbook Pro...I cried a little inside since I see some people walk around campus with those.

My gripes about the iphone:

- Only syncs with ONE computer. Try and sync it with any other and it'll want to erase your phone.
- Apple's control over the app store, and not allowing apps with competing functionality.
- The AT&T 3G network (or more correctly, the lack of a functional 3G network).
- Call drops and failed calls.
- System hangs that can't be recovered from (no detachable battery).

I bought a Droid this past Sunday. No hangs, no call drops, no failed text messages. Webpages load considerably faster on this than on my coworker's new 3GS. The Verizon 3G network is from my experience thus far actually usable.

Wow so your Droid has been working an entire 4 days, impressive!

Actually I agree with you there. The onscreen keyboard of the iPhone/iPod touch is cool but that screen just gets caked with oil and fingerprint smudges. The qwerty keypad is definitely a cleaner solution so that you're not constantly cleaning your screen. Also I'm never sure if I'm hitting the right letter so I have to leave my finger there that extra second to see that the right letter highlights before I let go.

The 3gs has a special coating that cuts down on this a LOT
