My computer was bad messed up. I could not get on the network, sound dead, security was complaining about being off, disk manager would not load at all, a click on recovery options did nothing.

As usual I fired up a live CD which worked fine, proving the hardware good and leaving the HD or software as suspects.

Ultimate boot HD tests showed no problems.

Upon rebooting back to Windows 10 the computer automatically scanned the HD but that did not clear up the problems.

My only clue was that in Device Manager Lenovo vhid device was showing as not working properly.

Having not much to lose I turned that item off and on again and violla, the computer works like new again.

What the heck is vhid?

"The Lenovo VHID Device / User Mode Driver Framework (UMDF) minidriver is usually used by the Lenovo Energy Management to control power management schemes. If you have this software installed, it could have found the necessary driver(s) after the reboot that's why you don't see it anymore."
