What jobs even make minimum wages now a days?

GoingUp

Lifer
With all of the talk recently about hiking minimum wage and the arguements for and against it, I cant remember the last time that I even saw something that low as the 5.15 minimum wage for people. At Oscar Mayer they pay over $10 an hour to anyone, and you can easily get data entry jobs for $8-10 an hour....

what jobs are minimum wage?

I would think most fast food places. I remember when I worked at Blockbuster Music it was minimum wage, so I imagine Blockbuster Video probably pays the same.

And the ironic thing is most grocery store workers are unionized.

BTW, in most large cities fast food joints pay more than minimum wage.

I'm making just over minimum wage, and I'm a fricken programmer!!! 🙁 (I'm still in college so I can't get a "Real" programming job, and this place has extremely flexible hours) I can't wait to leave this hellhole.

I was in the Teamsters when I worked at a local grocery store in high school. And my first job paid $3.35 an hour when I was 16 or so.

Most "simple jobs" pay minimum wages, jobs where no to little skills are required.

My first job was bagging food at a military grocery, no wage, only tips. I averaged $6hr, and that was back in '84.

I first job (still working there, WaWa) started me off at 6.50, now making 7.50 a year later. Min wage in jersey is 5.15 (or 5.25.. i forget now)

University jobs, like at the dining halls, tend to pay min. wage, IMO.

Yes they do I make 5.50 at the cafeteria, however, there is a worker study deal, make 1200 and they take 2000 off your tuition.

I wish my school had that.
