I'll be graduating with a CS degree this semester, so I decided to put my resume up on monster.com -- the thing is, its not letting me continue without entering a "Target Job Title"...

So for those in the know, what job titles are there for folks who are interested with some sort of network management? I suppose it will be an entry level position (I don't have any work experience in the computer industry :()

i am a "network engineer"

we also have a "network Analyst" in our group, which means he gets paid less and has to do the crappy stuff

You can be a "loser" or an "out-of-work nerd" or even a "systems analyst"
note: none of the above positions actually exist in the IT industry

Sounds kind of boring !?

at this company, it is a "catchall" for anything nobody else will do/take responsibility for

we are the cesspool of IT, we get all the crap nobody wants.
if it isn't a "WAN" issue, it goes to us. if the application developers don't want it, they try to pin it on the network, etc, etc, etc

it is really fun :D

Good luck finding a decent job that lasts. IT is so "oversaturated". You'll probably have to bounce from place to place and compete with thousands of others who are just as qualified.

true "networking" is in design and implementation of communications systems.

It has nothing to do with servers, OS, pcs or any of that nonsense. (hehe, my favorite reply...its an app problem if you'd fix your code you wouldn't have these problems. :) )

It has everything to do with IP network design (addressing, routing, routing protocols, scale, growth, business goals, security, performance, subscription rules, etc)

I don't doubt that, but its a field that i've been interested in for some time now (one of my IT classes sparked my interest). As for sitting down in a cubicle and writing a java/c++/etc program, its definitely not something i'd enjoy..well, its not even that, I wouldn't even mind doing that (I want/need a job so I can buy a new car :D), but after looking at monster.com it looks like every employer wants someone with 10 years experience in managing a network and stuff (there's hardly anything for people fresh out of college).

dealing with networks is generally not an entry level job. hope that helps.

That does help I suppose...so what jobs would someone seeking an entry level position look forward to?

Hard to say. There are no standards for titles in the computer industry.
