Someone asked me this question a few minutes ago:

"what it called when u use things like (shrug) (sigh)?"

I think he means does that type of action have a name, and I am assuming if the name/word exists, it is one of those big words you learn in 10th grade English, like onomatopoeia or something similar.

Anyone know?


Edit: BTW, I don't use "u" as "you". I just pasted it in verbatim.

That's what I said, but a sign isn't necessarily communication.

One CAN sigh to communicate something (If I sigh in response to something my wife says, she sure thinks I am communicating something).

But, not all sighs are meant as communication, so, maybe you have to split communicative sighs from non-communicative sighs.

yeah it is :confused: the sigh communicates to others about your emotional or physical state

whether or not it is intended to be used as communication, it can still server that purpose.
