You could probably get more bang for your buck with an Athlon 64 system, but that one is very nice, and definatly far from slow.

here is a hink, you don't need the extreme top of the line for a marginal performace increase, go down to the next best proc, you will barely notice the difference and will save a lot of money...

Grafics card on the other hand, spare no expense...

for Pent 4 machine, thats pretty nice.

Why the ATI card over the Nvidia 6800 series? Not trying to start flame war with others.

their both great cards and are toe to toe, so it doesnt really matter what he gets. if it's the gt vs the x800 pro, it's gt all the way though.

I still think an Athlon64 3500 would have been better at games, and less exspensive. They are about tied on encoding. Maybe the biggest reason is the Athlon64 3500+ runs MUCH cooler. The video card is fine, and faster in Far Cry than a 6800GT, but slower in others. And if you think thats too slow, get the 3800+ and it will beat the 3.6 in everything, and run cooler, and run 64-bits apps down the road for probably less money. (haven't checked today)

 never mind, its PCI-Express, so its better to go with ATI for now.

i agree very much with markfw900's post. the athlon 64 3500+ performs as well as a P4 3.7ghz in games and performs about the same as a p4 3.5 in encoding.

also, dont worry about agp and ddr not being upgradable in the future. they will be around for quite a while.

too much for what you get.

good computer but too expensive. i'd go with the athlon FX 53/ msik8neo/ ocz gold rev 3 pc 3700

First part true. But the FX 53 is to pricey, MSI sucks  , and too much for ram that gives you 2% increase in performance.

Its a great RIG, keep it..You will have great fun gaming with your system. However i would possibly look at changing the VID card to a 6800 Ultra , for the additional benefits SM 3.0 DX9C support, onboard encoding etc.

Great system, well done

If you are going PCI-E ATI is the way to go. Nvidia maybe a little faster at stock speeds but whenyou OC on the PCI-E bus ATI's cards are much more tolerable to the bus speed changes.

I would personally hold out for another month as Nforce 4 is right around the corner. Get that and an A64 3500+ or something and youll be set.
