What is your typical photo editing procedure before printing digital pics?

I just finally broke down and picked up a Canon A70 camera this week, and took some pics while I was visiting my girlfriend this week.

Basically all I did was put the photos in Roxio photosuite, did some custom white balancing, printed on my HP 2175 printer, and things came out beautiful as 4x6s, haven't tried larger sizes yet.

Just curious, for a home user is something like photoshop elements a worthwhile upgrade, or would I bet wasting my time?

Feel free to share experiances with anything you've treid:)

I usually don't do anything, but when I do, it's usually taking a stain off someone's shirt or something like that which photoshop is great for. I really don't like changing much about my photos, when I do I feel kinda like I'm cheating:D

Why do you print your own pictures? Isn't it significantly more expensive and lower quality?

Print on a Canon i860
have printed from a Epson 9500 Pro, 24x36 look sweet as hell

i do everything in lab color, it allows you to change levels without changeing the color of the pic, and the shadows and highlights feature in PS:CS is just awsome

Jasc Paintshop Pro 8.

Use it to adjust fade correction, color correction, histogram and red eye if needed. I have a Olympus C-4000 Zoom and print 4x6 photos (Glossy Photo Paper) with a Canon i560.

I dont print them, but if I am going to make corrections to my horrlble photography lack of skills, I use the Gimp and just randomly play with the filters until the pictures arent quite as horrible.

I have a Minolta Dimage Xi (its a pretty cool little camera)
