What is your ranking of Star Wars movies from best to worst?

The Empire Strikes Back
giphy.gif

Expanded the mythology beyond space wizards, cowboys and Nazis, and the only truly epic entry in the series; the best version of Luke, Han and Leia in all the movies. Boba Fett as a truly menacing threat. Battle of Hoth.

A New Hope
giphy.gif

What started it all. A boy, a girl, a galaxy

Return of the Jedi
giphy.gif

Yeah the Ewoks were lame, but I don’t cringe when watching it...I still grin when all the Ewoks pop up and surprise the Empire. The best paced and choreographed space battle of the series. Models > CGI. Jabba palace and sand barge fight. It’s a trap!

Solo
200w.gif

First nu-Star Wars film to truly capture the spirit of the originals, a fun entry in the series and how Disney should model the anthology films. Glover delivers an amazing Lando.

Rogue One
200w.gif

A missed opportunity in some regards but also some very memorable sequences. Remove the whole Jynn Erso father/daughter relationship and make her character just a regular special ops group leader and it works better. Finally get to see Darth Vader tear some sh!t up

The Force Awakens
200w.gif

Rehash/reboot but entertaining, I like the idea of Rey and Kylo Ren challenging the assumptions around Light and Dark side. I was hoping in TLJ they would play on this theme more. Didn’t care for nu-Empire or Han Solo deadbeat dad.

Revenge of the Sith
giphy.gif

Only prequel I can really watch anymore, Ewan McGregor nailed Obi Wan

The Last Jedi
200w.gif

WTF: WW2 space bombers, Mary Poppins Leia, astral projection Luke, hyperspace kamikaze and a prequel bad detour to a casino planet? On repeat viewings, I fast forward to the Rey/Ren scenes.

The Phantom Menace
giphy.gif

Darth Maul duel for the win, the phantom edit is actually a decent movie, but otherwise, a complete letdown

Attack of the Clones
200w.gif

I don’t like sand, it gets everywhere, WTF. The only good scene in the entire movie is the Obi-Wan/Jango fight.

Have not seen Solo yet but I'm guessing it'll be around "Rogue One" status for me going on the reviews I've seen.

I've seen most of them, including the first six in numerical order. I guess I like #4 the most and #1 the least. I wasn't really impressed with any of them, but none of them were bad.

No way "I hate sand!!!" is better than that sweet light sabre battle with Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Darth Maul.

That scene is one of the best in the series, and Duel of the Fates is one of the best musical pieces in the series, but there is so much in the Phantom Menace that is just garbage. Jar Jar, podracing, that poor kid who played Anakin... I don't like Attack of the Clones either, but I think I had lowered my standards by the time it came out because Phantom Menace was so bad.

Empire
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Rogue One
TFA
...
Don't remember a whole lot about Episodes II and III, but I'd have to put the Phantom Menace here (I liked the Pod Racing... so sue me)
Episodes II and III/TLJ

These are in order, but I could easily justify moving films around within a given tier.

All-time classics:
Empire
ANH

Really good movies:
Rogue One
Jedi (A weirdly different movie after having watched TFA and TLJ)
TFA

Ok, I guess:
Solo
Sith

I feel obligated to watch these during my Christmas week re-watch that's getting a bit silly with how many movies have come out:
TLJ
AoTC
TPM

The frustrating thing about the prequels is that I can easily see how one could take pretty much the same concepts that went into them and make really good movies with better scripts and directing. I sincerely hope they get re-made someday.

Rogue one was stupid all around.
TLJ was stupid - but entertaining if you shut your brain off from questioning things that obviously conflict with the original story line. Also the characters... oh god the characters... fucking god awful new characters all around. Way to make political correctness come into a fucking fantasy with token black guy and token asian lady both of which were just absolutely horrible characters.

Empire strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope

<Over 9000 gap>

Revenge of the Sith
Phantom Menace
Attach of the clones

< gap>
Rogue one
Force awakens
The last jedi

Revenge of the Sith
Rogue One
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi
Solo
Return of the Jedi
Phantom Menace (only better than attack because of Darth Maul's scenes)
Attack of the Clones

If you loved Solo that much, more power to you, but it literally could have been a made for TV movie if not for the Star Wars name.

I'm surprised at the love for Star Wars. (the original movie, re-named A New Hope.) Yeah, it kicked off the franchise, and was pretty original in what it did, but the sets and costumes were cheesy at best, and the graphics were horrid. (of course, 1977 was a bit before CGI as we know it today) Still...it's probably my favorite of the bunch. I was never a big fan of ESB, and the Ewoks ruined RotJ for me...I put them in the same category as Jar Jar Binks...

Same, I can't understand the love for RotJ even though I was obsessed with it as a 10 year old (especially slave Leia, great for preteen fantasies!). Meh, to each their own.

I spent a lot of money and time trying to get at what so many people seemed to be so excited about but have yet to have a great Star Wars experience. Haven't watched one Star Wars movie since 2006.

Here's the thing -- I was very into science fiction as a teenager. It was the first genre I really enjoyed reading and read a fair amount. Science fiction is a window into the future if done right. But "Star Wars"? Those two words together are one giant oxymoron. The stars should be part of our future, at least understanding them on a cosmic level. But war? That's something to get over, ultimately. To make a movie and then a whole series of movies based on the unholy union of cosmology and warfare? Fail.
