What is your pattern unlock?

I have always been curious if my phone unlock pattern is super common and easy to guess. I picked it because it's quick to swipe it in (a reason I chose pattern unlock in the first place). It's basically a short L but backwards across the bottom row. Common? Easy to hack?

Per company policy, my phone (their phone really) unlock is a complex password. MFs. Does remove any temptation to use the phone while driving. :p

Don't use one only fingerprint or PIN.

I'd guess Z would be very common.
My LG insists on also having a pattern (tap pattern, not swipe) in addition to fingerprint, it asks for it in addition to fingerprint after a reboot, or at random.

I basically use a checkmark but then it does like a Z after. Simple enough to do fast but complicated enough that it would be hard to guess in enough tries. Even the way I explained it here I bet it would take several tries for someone to figure out what I mean. I don't keep anything important on my phone and anything such as VPN into my house requires a separate password. The only risk might be SSH keys which do use a password but I think SSH key passwords are client side so fairly easy to crack with a fast computer. But if my phone got stolen I could just revoke the keys on the server anyway before they managed to crack the password which would still take a very long time.

Weird I have a Sprint v30+ and it prompts for a PIN not a swipe?

Can't recall if its something I set up...

^ As I understand it, at first boot, it always asks for something other than biometric for security reasons. That's why they recommend you reboot your phone if you have any kind of evidence on it at something like a traffic stop. They can't biometrically log into your phone. Swipe should still work after a reboot (just tested on S8+).

And why aren't more of you telling me your unlock pattern??!?!??!!! If you don't use one on Android, is it because it's too insecure (like smart unlock linked to my fitbit)? It's super convenient. Didn't realize till now that Apple doesn't have the option natively.

I set up my parents' LG G5 and it only requires the swipe pattern and nothing else from sleep.

I think on one of my older phones I had an option of a PIN or a swipe.

It's a G6, I meant that I also have to have a tap pattern set, regardless of whether I have a fingerprint set. It will let me in with just a tap on reboot. I suppose the tap is also handy in case something happens to my fingers (I have four of them entered, so it would have to be a pretty gnarly accident).
It's a 4x4 grid that I have to tap specific squares on in a sequence of six.
When I did have a swipe on another phone, it was more of a Z pattern.

Is your LG tap pattern similar or very different than what is commonly believed to be a number pattern (pin) that most of us type into our phones?

^ Invisible pattern swipe is definitely more secure than pin.

That knock code thing is basically not any different than a pin, except where there's only 4 digit possibilities. That's less secure than a luggage lock!

It makes me crazy that I can't require fingerprint/faceID + PIN, or geofence type of auth required.

I have an iPhone XR, so I use FaceID to unlock. If I had to draw a pattern, though, I'd probably draw something that looks like a penis. Because, hey.... even when you're a grown-up, doodling penises is funny.

I used to use a pattern for a short time but no longer. Now I use face, fingerprint, and PIN.

I also have Smart Unlock, or whatever it's called, so if my phone's in range of my Fitbit or my Bluetooth receiver in the car it'll unlock without a password. I really like the feature, super handy.

I don't use biometric access. The government can compel you to open $item, as opposed to knowledge based security, which they can't.

Yeah that's a big issue, that and it's basically a password that never changes. It looks cool because it's like sci fi movies and stuff but in reality it's not even that secure.
