What is your opinion on WW II Online? Should I go out and buy it?

Ok, I have heard mixed opinions on this game. Many people say it's very buggy. Some players say they get only 10fps (that's if they're lucky). I really like the WW II genre games and this game, with its Everquest-like gameplay, has great potential. But I don't want to waste $40 and have to spend an extra $10/month for a game that is crap.

I would avoid it - servers are unstable, game is extremely unfinished (missing about half of the stuff advertisted), has terrible graphics that offer unplayable framerates, and even the gameplay is questionable (have read in the forums how useless infantry is, issues like "friendly fire" still have not been decided upon, etc).

Going to take so long just to fix the stability, framerate and bug issues that it will be a while before patches will be able to address gameplay and add the content that was supposed to be there all along.

Had been following this game a little and was thinking about picking it up but it seems to be a complete debacle. Large percentages of the sold copies have been returned - I wouldnt be surprised if CRS went under.

There are a few posts concerning WWII online in here...good reads, if you get a chance :) As for me, I no longer beta test it and removed the software and icon from the desktop :)

Yea, any company that releases a game to the public with so many known issues should go under...they tried to bring suit against a couple beta testers that went public, against the agreement, and told people that it's not worth the plastic it is printed on...then, people argued that EQ did the same, but I remind you that it was fully playable from day 1, just little kinks that needed to be worked out and was patched each day to address them...last time I seriously tried WWII was the day it shipped...tried to see if anything was fixed from beta yet, but to no avail...out of an hour of messing around, I had maybe 20 minutes of playtime, tops...and the time I did have sucked :) low FPS, long respawn times, long load times, etc, etc...booted to the desktop a dozen times, too :)

I bought it yesterday, knowing it was going to be a little buggy, and it didn't disappoint me. I'm only running a celery 466 and voodoo3 but i do have 320mb ram. I get 12-18 fps but i find that good enough.
Infantry is pretty useless against tanks, but that's just the way it was. One of the things they will iron out is limiting the amount of tanks and vehicles compared to the number of infantry. I love it's realism, but i'm a simulation freak. UT and Q3 do nothing for me. This game wasn't ready to be boxed but the company may have had no choice, and i see programmers working hard to fix things. My free trial clock hasn't started yet, so i'm not concerned. I bought it at Compusa for $29.99 on sale ($5 below what my employee cost is).
Down the road i see this as a great game, and i don't blame people for waiting it out. I've had fun this weekend tho, even went on a mission with someone named soybomb (not sure if the guy from AT).

I'm going to order it today since no place in my town has it.

Supposedly the patch improved fps a lot. I've been following the official forums the last day and people are getting good frame rates now. I'm talking 15-20fps to 35-40ps increase.

Infantry being useless... yes I've heard that a lot but very soon they will be more than likely limiting the number of tanks so people will have to play infantry. In addition, they will be getting some AT weapons.

I hear of a lot of crashes, freezes, and errors but I'm not worried. I swear everyone had problems and hated Tribes 2 saying it was buggy yet I never had a single problem with it with the exception of an Unhandled Exception error. It was caused by using the mousewheel to switch weapons. However, that was fixed with like the first patch. :)

I'm looking forward to it. I expect it to be great when I get it and very kickass within a couple months.

And the reason why it is supposedly buggy and unfinish is because CSR ran out of money. The publisher or whoever was supporting the dev team was going to pull the plug so they had no choice but to release it to make the money and provide all the features and fixes through a patch.

edit: Dark4ng3l - well yes that's an option but you can't have hundreds of people at a time with that. There's just so much more in WW2 Online like planes and tanks (DoD might have these) and I believe they'll be adding boats. They are just so much different. I expect DoD to be more of a fragfest and spawn right into the action while WW2 Online is suppose to be more of a simulation of a real war. I'm kind of sick of HL too.
