Unless you are speaking loudly, or ignoring the waitstaff, it doesn't seem especially rude to me

i mean this is the only option if you're by yourself: as soon as you walk out, people will just assume that you're leaving, so yes phone usage is tolerable.

i remember this other time an idiot was playing with his stupid ringtone (which is an annoying nokia old monophonic tune) for about 15 minutes on the subway. i wanted to go over and shove the phone up his @ss but i was too tired...

I agree with whats been said. If they are talking at the same level as people are talking at the table, then who cares.

fine only if they are talking quietly, in a quiet environment.

if noisy environment, talk a bit louder, but never ever talk loudly.

Its extremely rude and they should be thrown out.

Read my post above. Assuming I'm talking at the same level I would to a person sitting across the table from me, how is it any different?

Because you know they don't. "most times" they talk much more loudly than normal conversation.

i dont mind it as long as
1) theyre quiet on the phone
2) their ringtone is a beep and not say....an entire song
3) it doesnt ring long before they answer it

I do talk on my cell phone in restaurants, don't care about people talking on their cell phones, and I don't give a damn about what other people think about it.

It depends on many factors.

The restaurant's atmosphere.
Their voice level.
Their ringtone.
Their relationship to the people at their table.
The length of time the conversation lasts.
Whether or not they choose to take it outside if it's a long conversation, i.e. more than a minute.
Their proximity to my table.
How they conduct the conversation in front of the people at their table and others in the restaurant.

Agreed - it depends on a lot of factors. Most of the time in cheap/chain restaurants, it's just fine (Chili's, Red Lobster, TGI Fridays, Outback Steakhouse, etc. types of restuarants) because it's already pretty loud in there. But, if it's in a nice restaurant and someone's speaking louder than a normal conversation, then it kinda pisses me off.

One of these days, I'm just going to make a cell phone jammer to carry with me 🙂

While I'm working in the pizza shop, if I have to wait 10 seconds for a customer to finish a conversation, then fvck them. I refuse to waste my time - I've got other things to do. I just won't wait on them as a matter of principle - I'll wait on someone else or walk away.

this thread needs a funny poll, just because i'm bored

Tried to add a poll, no go (typed in questions but it won't show up). I guess you have to do the poll initially or not at all.

I dont mind the conversation. Its the ringing of the damn phone that gets me. I dont care if its McDonalds, its still rude . Why the hell do they make the vibrating feature on the phone(I mean, other than to keep the ladies happy)? What gets me going is the friggin Nextel beeps you hear everywhere. I keep mine on vibrate assholes!!!! So damn inconsiderate.

Peace

It's really annoying when they talk very loud (why do people do that, anyway?).

Last week I got to see a funny incident. We were eating dinner (midrange restaurant) and at the next table was a young couple on a date. In the span of a half-hour she received four phone calls and probably talked for five minutes each time - she was definitely on the phone more than off.

I was facing the guy and it was obvious he was in pain over her talking on the phone most of the time. They ordered dessert and the guy excused himself. He never came back! After a while she started looking around every couple minutes. When the waitress came over to refill her drink the girl asked for the check and the waitress said the guy already paid it. I think that was when she knew he just left her there.

Didn't seem to faze her too much, she just got back on the phone and called someone.

I don't want to hear the phone fvcking ring. If a person wants to talk on it, they should do it at a reasonable level.

I don't have a problem with the phones ringing, or even if they answer it and the restaurant is loud already, but if it's quiet they should go outside or to an area away from others and return their call.
