What is your opinion/experience with Tiger Direct PCs?

Hello,

I got an e-mail from Tiger Direct about a 1GHz PC for $799. The component look pretty good (16MB ATI vid, 128MB RAM, 30GB HHD, etc.) and I have a friend looking to purchase a new PC for as little $$ as possible. I want to recommend it, because of its price, but I hate to recommend a "lemon".

What is your opinion/experience with Tiger Direct?

They have always looked like integrated POS to me.

While Tiger Direct and their PC's are two different things, I noticed before that the company has a very poor rating (currently 2.9 out of 7, by 69 raters) at ResellerRatings.

I've always been very leery of those big advertisers in Computer Shopper magazine, since I've noticed many of the biggest have similarly poor ratings at ResellerRatings.

For the same money you could buy one of those introductory Dell or Gateway systems and have no worries about quality.

I love their oem cases, but their prices and customer service are crap, I would not reccomend them for a system purchase.

I ordered a modem through them and the sent me the wrong one( couldn't even run it on my system) and them made me pay shipping to return it to them and wouldn't refund my original shipping.

Do not buy a PC from TigerDirect. Their service is non-existence. I bought a PC from them a few years back and it never worked right (cheap components).

Yup TD sucks. I bought a case from them and they forgot to send ANY type of hardware with the case, only screws it came with held the sides on, and no drive rails. I called over and over, they would just switch me from person to person, then when i did get a hold of one of the sup'es, he told me he would send out the parts the next day. That was about a year and a half ago, still waiting
