What is your in-game ping (Q3/UT)?

Evan, man I feel sorry for you... Paying for cable and still only getting half-ass ping? My ping is hardly any worse than yours, and I'm paying... hmm, maybe about $5 or $7 per month for my internet (56k, unlimited).

Uhhhhh, I can't even play them because my ping is so bad. I have a 56k modem, and I download/upload at like 1kb/s.

Ping isn't my biggest concern, I just like the download/upload speed. Plus, I used to get around 350ms because my local phone lines don't allow anything faster than 26400. I happy with cable

Yep, it is pretty nice, although I'm more of a Rogue Spear / Counterstrike player, so anything under about 100ms is perfectly fine, give that those are relatively slow paced compared to Quake 3

That's my ISP. Pretty fast and stable for 56k if you ask me.

UT ping is much different from most other pings.
For UT, <180 is good, <100 is excellent.
For most other games, <100 is good, <50 is excellent.

UT has some interesting network code, but the game kicks ass.

Pretender, that's weird... I very often get ~180ms in QIII as well as UT. They both mess up sometimes, even when the ping is low...

My UT pings are generally about 150-170, while my friends on 56k are about 220-250.
When I tried QIII, I used to get about 90-100.

I play CS now, and get pings of about 75-95.


Based on QIII and CS, I'm guessing that that is the 'norm' for multiplayer games, and UT is just an exception.

Usually, it depends on where the server is. West Coast I can usually get 40-50, East Coast it goes up to 120. All on RoadRunner.

Cable modem here, UT pings anywhere from 50-130 average, unless the server is crappy. Same in Q3A
