read speed max -- 40201kps
min -- 22550kps
average -- 34505kps
random access time -- 9.9ms
read burst speed 71.4mbps

i just want to know is it good enough??

what are the scores that you guys have??

please tell me if i am running ATA100??

Yes you're running ATA100 since your burst speed is over 66 MB/sec

It's normal for sustained read speeds to be well below 100 MB/sec since the HD can't read that fast.

so to determine if the hard drive is running ATA100 is to look at the burst speed??

Those are good scores. But your access time spec looks unrealistically low. Did u put a check in the 'Advanced Size Check' box .. or just check the first 8GB? Checking the 1st 8GB will yield unrealistically low access times.

What is your CPU util?

i thought the access time is lower is better, isn't it??

my cpu utilisation is 22.5%

Yes, lower is better. Unrealistically low = unrealistically good (compared to manufacturers specs).

22.5% is not good.

Typical is less than 5%.

That seems to be a lot of CPU utilization. I run my primary 40GB Maxtor ATA66 7200RPM on a Promise card, and get a CPU utilization of 4.8% This is on a KT7. I know you asked for results from the Pro2A, but I am just curious what kind of CPU utilization other Pro2A users are getting.

Here is my HD Tach screenshot

Random Access time: 9.5ms
Read Burst Speed : 50.8mbps
Max read speed: 30369.0Kbs
Min Read Speed: 23301.0Kbs
Average: 29245.8Kbs

EDIT: I posted before I saw that you were running other things, shut down all running programs, and see what you come up with.

i wonder why the cpu utilisation is so high
even i closed everything
it is still around 18-20%

wonder if there is anyway to lower it??

When I had high CPU usage on my ATA100 I found setting my own VM, and clearing the BIOS and resetting all the settings fixed it for me... I was at 19% and it dropped me back to about 2-3%. Your scores are excellent besides that.

there is no way seek times are the same when doint advanced size check. It takes much longer to seek over the entire disk the just the first 8GB. When benchmarking with HD Tach always use advanced size check.

What version Via 4-in-1 drivers are you using? I think there is a problem with the 4.26 IDE drivers.

People should have Advanced Size Check on, it reports more accurate/realistic access times. For some reason my CPU utlization is always 0.0-0.2%.

this is my new score after installing the vxd IDE driver

max -- 38761kps
min -- 7390kps
ave -- 29099kps
Random access time is 14ms
read burst speed is 74.3mb

and the cpu utilization is 5.4%

as you can see the speed here is slower than my last score(installed with miniport) but the cpu utilization is much more less than last score

wonder why

anyone running an ata/100 maxtor on a kt7pro2-a on win2k, getting the drive showing as PIO mode in the device manager?

The windows site says it's labelled incorrectly, but cpu utilization is very high when copying files, and the drive seems sluggish.

any ideas?

Oh, I see. Just giving heng some other HD Tach benches to bounce off his own. If they don't help, then no harm, no foul.
