And who, if anyone, has taken his mantle nowadays?

For me, Moby Dick is his best movie but he gave us so many classic performances that it is hard to choose. Posssibly the greatest actor of the 20th century. I just don't see anyone with such presence amongst the current crop of actors.

Roman Holiday, though I may be basing my opinion more on his co-star's performance than his own. ;)

OK, now add the "I like every movie I have ever seen Gregory Peck in." There is simply NO WAY to pick one of his movies as a favorite. He was such a superb actor he made every movie he was ever in his own.

Bingo. ;)

I'd say TKAM, but I haven't even seen 1/2 of them listed.
