What is your favorite video game and why?

ATOT has born witness to countless video game polls, but usually people just post responses that are similar to "UT2k4 ROX LOL."

What makes your favorite video game your favorite? PC games count, too!

My favorite would have to be Super Metroid. There is so much to be said for that simple formula. Find powerups, beat bad guys, search for secrets. There's something just plain fun about 2-D.

Runner-up might be Guitar Hero II, I like the songs more than the songs on the first one and it's so fun to rock out on Free Bird.

Tough call. my favorite is PROBABLY Morrowind, followed by Oblivion. I tend to gravitate to the open-ended games. But when I'm in the mood to kill stuff, I like gory, repetitive action like Quake 4 or Doom 3. On consoles, it would be the GTA series.

Tie Fighter (on 5 floppy discs and eventually the CD version)

Lots of gameplay, a lot of variety in missions, no "barriers" to run into, and it got me at a really good time growing up 😀

Hmmm quite a lot of games to really pin it down. the game i played the most was probably counter-strike. single player i really liked Half-Life 1.

on console... either HALO 1 or Street Fighter 2 Turbo

I'd have to say Call of Duty: United Offensive tied with Gran Turismo 4.

GT4 is amazing with the Logitech Driving Force Pro. Call of Duty is just a game I really got into and I never really liked the second one so I'm sticking to UO. The next games in line would probably be Age of Empires 2, C&C Generals and CS:S. Oh yeah for multiplayer fun as in when people come over - nothing beats Mario Tennis and Mario Kart on Gamecube. Mario Strikers is up there too.

All time? Super Metroid.

Currently though, Zelda Twilight princess is giving it a good run for its money. I love the wii interface and the Zelda story.

tetris. becuz.... it's fun?

Maybe I should have been more specific. What makes it fun? I like tetris because it's so simple, for example.

i like it becuz its simple and for some reason, i never get sick of playing it (never gets old). tetris is actually the only reason i got a ds lite. a friend told me that i could play online against others for free... after that, i had to have it 🙂

OMG. I had the CD version but I loved it. I remember "Stack Overflow" errors also.

Bottom line is I kicked ass in that game and I made a bunch of custom missions too. Loads of fun until X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter came along. And then I broke my joystick ><

You two need to play Freespace 2 some time, it's the pinnacle of the genre.

Usually a shooter, right now F.E.A.R. is my favorite until I finish it but a couple weeks ago Serious Sam 2 was number one until I finished it too. I need another good shooter after this! 😛

I like Hoyle Casino too. 😱

Counter-strike. After 5+ years years, the competitive scene is still strong on an international level.

Starcraft in 2nd place for it's similar longevity. Diablo II probably 3rd cause it was just damn fun for way too long 🙂.

Try Far Cry if you haven't already, it's a great shooter game.

I second that, it's a lot of fun.

And then try Quake 4 if you haven't tried it yet.

Phantasy Star IV. Best game ever perhaps for the genesis. Gituar Hero II comes in the top 5, rocking out to megadeth is much fun. DotA is fun as hell (mod for WC3:TFT), Final Fantasy III/VI, and UT '99. Dual Enforcer ownage ftw.

My current favorite is Soul Calibur 2 on PS2. My boys have finally gotten old enough that I can play against them, and we have a ball. 🙂

HL2 on pc, Final Fantasy X on PS2, Burnout Revenge on 360, Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube, Final Fantasy VII on PS1, Zelda 1 on NES, Zelda: Link to the Past on SNES, and Leisure Suit Larry - Love for Sail on old school pc.

why?

because HL2 is the best FPS ever, FFX is an amazing story, Burnout has some of the best drifting, racing, RE4 is an excellent story coupled with amazing gameplay, FFVII again awesome story, Zelda - thats a no brainer, Zelda Link to the past is probably my favorite game ever, and LSL because the comedy is awesome and it has a scratch and sniff thing built into the game.

I'll say it like this... when I was in college, I played those text-based MMORPGs - like it was crack. Everyday and almost every free moment I'd get back to it like a true addict. No other type of game is more addictive. Then it went away... I missed it like none other... and then along came WoW.

I do like racing games and sports games but I never go back to them or think about them during my free time.
