What is your favorite car from the 80?s?

I was thinking on the way into work today about the different cars I admired for various reasons and I found myself searching for a car from the 80?s that stood out to me as a special or significant vehicle. I?ve thought more about after getting to work and came up with a short list.

1985 Ford Mustang GT ? Brought the muscle back to muscle cars
1985 Mazda RX-7 ? The last of a sporty car design
1987 Buick Grand National ? Any V6 car that can beat a Corvette is OK in my book.
1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA ? One of the first luxury muscle cars
1989 Nissan 300 ZX Turbo ? I believe this car sparked the import sport car market.

What and why are your favorite cars from the 80?s?

The 89 300ZX turbo was just the last year of the Z31 body style. The (Japanese) import sports car market was sparked by the Datsun 240Z.

They didn't stop producing the RX-7 until the mid ninties...and the 80's versions were nowhere near as good as the 90's versions.

I think he meant that it was the last of the 1st gen RX-7's, which was very minimalist and simple. The later cars had more luxury to them.

GNX. Easy.

It's bad, it's fast, it has the total package. Pretty much the only car I consider a "classic" that came out of the '80s.

I'd disagree on the 85 Quix..it was the start I suppose, but the stang was really great when it when to fuel injection in 86, and then got even more powerful/refined in the 87-93 foxes. 🙂

My favorite was the '91-'92's...a lot of the quirks and problems of the earlier years were fixed/improved, the MAF motors were much easier to mod and tune, you got an airbag, nicer 16" Pony rims, and the best of all...FORGED PISTONS....well...until mid '92. The '93 Cobra was probably the best of the fox bodies...but had the non boost-friendly cast pistons..

 to this thread!

🙂

The early Z and ZX nissan are good cars but didn't capture the average American's attention like the 300ZX Turbo plus other than the RX-7, Supra, and Z/ZX there wasn't much of a market.

I had a 1986 300ZX Turbo, and I have a 1991 300ZX Twin Turbo now. Great cars.

The 2000GT came out first, but was relatively unheard of. It didn't spark any kind of market with only 337 of them being produced. It had little to no effect on the market.

The 240Z was the car that sparked the market. Until then, no other Japanese sports car was considered a serious contender worthy of buying. Datsun sold 116,712 of them.
