well, like the title says. i want to hear about people's experience with the kt266a via chipset and soundblaster live range of cards from creative. recently i've had problems with my comp ranging from random reboots to blue screens, all associated with either playing a movie, playing a mp3, or some type of sound occurence. this is regardless of how many times i reinstall/flashbios/update drivers, etc... when i switched to onboard audio, problem went away.

i suspect a compatibility problem with the kt266a and my live value!, but i've only heard of problems like this on via's earlier chipset models, while it seems that others have problems on via's most recent chipsets as well, but it seems to be hit or miss with a lot of people. so i am asking people with a kt266a chipset and a soundblaster live/audigy variant of sound card, what is your experience with them.

Sound Blaster cards have been known to cause problems with Via chipsets, however the newer live cards dont. You should get rid of the value dude. NewEgg has SB Live 5.1's for around 32 bucks right now, I currently have a value system running a Live 5.1 on a KT266a chipset, so you wont have any problems.

Using Audigy here with my Epox 8KHA+( Via KT266A) with no problems,my friend has the same board with a SB Live,he too has no problems,I would suggest if you have problems is move the sound card to a different PCI slot.

My Live & 266A experience has been a negative one. I use WinXP and an 8KHA+ and no matter what PCI I popped the Live! in, I kept getting crackles and pops in music and weird, seemingly software based EAX problems in games where things would sound just totally horrible or even just continuously escalate from an echo into a loud screech. I diteched the SBLive, removed all the drivers, and popped in a Santa Cruz...all problems fixed.

i've had a similar experience as you have with your sound card. i've also tried different pci slots and it doesn't seem to matter, acpi or not. anybody else?

alright. seems like it's a hit or miss type of thing, and a miss for me. i've also had problems with this same card and a bx chipset when i had my dual celeron computer, but some of you i guess have ones that are working great. i'll try picking up a new sound card down the line, non-creative. any suggestions?

I have an SB Live value on my Soyo Dragon Plus (KT266A) and there have been no problems whatsoever. No crashes, no popping or static, nothing. The card is about 2-3 years old too.

The card started out working. Then I changed OSes to 2k and had to repatch drivers. Installed that retarded liveware. Then when I would play something the sound would fade from loud - left channel to silent - right channel. So in a 4 point setup the far left speaker would be audible but by the time it got to the far right I could no longer hear it. Tried multiple ways to fix it until I finally just chucked the card.

I currently have a Dragon Plus , XP1700+ (unlocked and running @ 12x134) and an SB Live X-gamer non-5.1. No problems at all with Windows XP. In fact, I tried the onboard C-media and it sucked compaired to the X-gamer.
