What is your definition of a Rice Rocket?

Just curious of what everyone's opinion of what a Rice Rocket is. I've obviously seen varying viewpoints on what it actually is and it's kinda confused me. I always thought that Rice Rocket refered to the wannabe oriental and japanese imports that tried to mix it up with the big American and European powerhouse cars. Anyone care to comment on this?

imho, rice is a car (any car, foreign or domestic) that has useless modifications... i.e. fwd cars with wings, catback exhausts that don't really add power, but add to the sound, stickers in general, incorrect badging, race seats for a car that won't be racing, hood pins, neon lights running under the car, all sorts of gauges for a car that has no need for them (no engine work or tuning) and that sort of stuff... i guess borderline would be bodykits... to me bodykits are cool as long as they're done in moderation and don't look fugly, but that's just a personal opinion

Wings aren't useless for FWD cars unless they are drag racing cars.

Honda

EDIT: Well, not really. I guess many Hondas aren't that fast, so they aren't rockets for sure. And I don't think that my managers Honda Pilot could be considered a rice rocket. So, just disregard this post :)

Rice Rocket = 70's jap bike.

Crotch rocket = came into being late 70's > early 80's replacing "Rice Rocket" in bench racing jive.

We have been around way to long Red.

A real rice rocket is a 1972 Kawasaki H2. Mmmmmm, high octane and bean oil. Smells like victory.

Rice=putting unpainted body kits on a car(Jap or domestic)
Rice=putting stickers for stuff on your car, when you don't have those parts in your car.
Rice=anyone reving their stock civic DX at the stop light at 60 and 70's muscle cars.

how many people actually race their cars auto-x or on the track and how many times more people try to drag, whether legal or illegal...?

better question

how many people with fwd cars and huge wings race their cars anything other than drag?

rice = making a car look fast when it really isn't fast.

although most people on this forum have no idea what rice means and they just flame away at any car modifications without understanding. but then again people here are pretty ignorant about a lot of things.

That's pretty much how i see it as well. Emphasis on look fast.

If you can't back-up your stickers and spoiler with some speed and power, then you're RICE. However, i wouldn't personally consider an SL500 with a double-decker spoiler & stickers rice. I'd just call it poor taste :D

How many people with RWD cars have enough power to break the tires loose at any speed where the wing is producing an appreciable amount of downforce? At 60mph traction for acceleration is a non-issue for all but the most powerful sports cars.

Unless you're running a drag car, the wing is there for high speed stability and high speed cornering. Something that both front and rear wheel drive cars can benefit from.
