Are you Obese or something? Why do you need to temp set that low?
It's all relative. Its 16c here right now at 2219 and I'm going to struggle to sleep in that, I'll have the fan on and the windows open. And I'm about as far from obese as you can get!

I keep it at 74 all year but most people probably forget that the value for comfort will adjust based on the amount of humidity in the house. Lower humidity = cooler feel.

If you don't keep your A/C on, the humidity will rise and your walls will start to absorb the water the in the air. Its better to keep it on for that reason alone.

78-80, lots of sun coming through the windows in the afternoon, makes no sense to fight it

Nada, it’s not working. Usually 80ish during the day,75-77 when I get home depending on time and visitors, and 75 when sleeping. Currently upper 80s during the day and mid 80s at night with a non working unit.

Exact same situation.

I don't know where you live but you need a better AC. It gets hot as balls here with humidity so high that you have to chew the air before you breathe it but I set my AC at 75 and it doesn't run all day. I like it cold when I sleep so some nights I will turn it down to 70 and it keeps that too until I wake up and turn it back up.

Yeah my philosophy is if you can't cure meat in your living room you need to increase the BTU rating of the A/C unit. I like to work in increments of 12,000 BTU myself but really it can never be too high. Though seriously what would be nice is a variable speed compressor, so that it can be grossly oversized but then rev down as it gets closer to the desired temp. That way even in the +35's it would keep up. Oversizing a unit and having it run at full pin all the time is less desirable otherwise.

75 during the day and 73 at night - but our upstairs is always a few degrees warmer than the room with the thermostat. Getting acclimatized would be nice but most of my work is in office or server rooms in the 68-74 range so that never happens. The high humidity in MI doesn't help

Funny thing is when I'm at a hotel I set it to 68 and I'm still hot in bed. Probably cause the places I stay at have way better quality sheets lol.

Or the places that have no sheet and a single, heavy blanket.

A happy wife is a happy life.

Sorry to hear about your brainwashing ;)

I actually just got a window unit for the bedroom since I like it cold as balls when I sleep. Now I can leave the central air at 75 and have my bedroom at 60 without having a "holy shit" electric bill :D

It is as true as water is wet. Since you say that you disagree I see two possible options.

1. You are lying.
2. Someone else is doing you a favor by keeping your wife happy for you :p

I can't vote because my home has three zones set to three different temps. 69/73/76 2nd/1st/basement.

17 hours without stopping today. Finally hitting desired temp of 75, still at 55% humidity even after running that long. At one point it got up to 83 in the house and it only hit 98 outside.

I don't think I've run mine for more than a few hours continuously so far this year. Had to use the furnace again this morning, was not super cold but just a tad cool, I'm always cold in the morning when I have to get up early.

My thermostat is set to either 68 or 70 during the day.

I close vents in rooms I don't use. At night I set it to 63. I like it cooler when I sleep.
