Great warning sign there. I'll be sure to "stay off the undertow".

They've just removed some words to shorten it up. Doesn't look too bad.

"An average of 7 drownings occur per year in this area. Please stay off the rocks at the water's edge because the current and undertow are extremely strong. Enjoy your stay, but be careful.

exactly. i went with a relative and he says that sign is what is wrong with this country, no attention to detail. it took a foreigner to notice something wrong with an english sign.

Does it really matter? They always shorten signs so you get the general idea. If they used proper grammar and such, the sign would be huge and people wouldn't bother to read it...

It's not a literary prize but hopefully it keeps your dumb ass off the rocks and out of the water.

As for the sentiment that this is a good example of what is wrong with this country, I think the attention to detail you show in your posts is a better indication. After all, you are posting to point out poor grammar and you don't seem to be aware of things like spelling, punctuation and capitalization.

Ouch! We're always soo quick to criticize others, but we forget to look at ourselves first.

First sentence is a fragment.

"waters edge" should be "water's edge"

You can't stay "off" extremely strong currents nor can you stay "off" undertow.

That is all.

Just change the sign to read:
STAY OFF ROCKS
HAVE A NICE DAY

National Park Services

there, end of discussion

Ah I see, you are attempting to personify your point. Well done.
