Bought a 42" Vizio the other day and there seems to be a problem with dimming across the middle of the screen. This is only an issue with the tv input (through the coaxial). The bluray through an HDMI and Xbox through component look fine, but the tv input looks noticibly dim across the middle of the screen. I've checked the connections several times with no luck. Any ideas?

Try another coax cable, both from the wall to the cable box and from the cable box to the TV. Could be a bad cable. Also test the cable box on another TV, it could be the box itself is fudging the signal and its just more noticeable on the new TV.

It seems odd that it only does this for the cable. Not all cable is really HD. Sometimes you have to adjust TV's. So is this plasma, LED, LCD or what? Nowadays HDTV's use correction software and it needs to be uncorrected by adjusting the settings. It is always good to give the model of what you have because someone else might have the same model or something similar. If this is a bad model, maybe other people want to avoid it.

I elected to buy a Samsung LCD for my last TV. LED seemed to be having issues at the time so I decided to go with the older technology.

This forumn has a lot of info about TV's and Home Theater Equipment:

I would call Vizio. That sounds a lot like what my girlfriend's 40" Sony was doing and a simple firmware update fixed it.

Took it back and got a Toshiba. Hooked up the cable and everything looks good.

Good idea. I don't consider Vizio a top brand, in spite of what others might tell you about them. Just do a search and see all the people complaining about them breaking just after the factory warranty expires. Then they can't even find parts to repair them, unless they scavenge other broken Vizio's.
