What is wrong with my router/iphone 4 combo?

I have the Cisco/Linksys WRT54G2 router, the basic BJs G router special. I use it in conjunction with my iphone 4, the only wireless device I own. Whenever I listen to streaming audio with the iphone and the wifi router connection, it stutters and stops constantly. When I disconnect the router and iphone switches to 3G, audio is fine. When I do a speed test via an iphone app, it says the download speed is near the DSL 3 gig speed limit (about 2600 meg). The PC using the wired router port does not have this problem. Before I chalk it up to a crappy router, could it be something else and is there anything I should check?
