what is wrong with my crossfire?

when I run 3dmark06 on my system in my signature I get

crossfire disabled 16591
crossfire enabled 17002

I got 14473 with crossfire enabled the first time I ran it. what could be wrong?

Your CPU is missing from your sig, from those scores I'm betting 3ghz quad.

3dmark06 gets very CPU limited as the numbers go up.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @2.8 GHz

but why would I get a score of 14.5k with only 1 video card and a much higher score with 2....

that can't just be random variance in CPU ability.

I think his CPU needs a decent OC for him to have his scores up. It's at a mere 2.8ghz, running CrossfireX, he is being CPU limited atm...

I'll consider that but I'm not trying to get a high score here, I'm worried there is a problem...

is crossfire working or not? in GPUz all 4 cores show up, 3 of them show up as Enabled (4 GPUs), Sideport Off. the last one shows up as disabled.

3dmark2006 is a terrible benchmark. There was almost no difference in score between when I ran 4850's in crossfire and my current quad GPU configuration. Going from a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz to my Q9650 @ 4.4Ghz did bump the score up from 22k to 27k or so.

The benchmark is way too focused on your CPU.

Have you tried vantage? You should see much better results using quad crossfire.

Try your benchmark with Vantage.

can any of you with crossfire 4870x2s tell me what it says in your GPUz for each chip for crossfire? is it always supposed to be 3 of them show up as Enabled (4 GPUs), Sideport Off. the last one shows up as disabled.

if the 2nd card only shows up in CCC as 0's (zeros) for it's clocks, temps & activity, the culprit is a new power-saving feature that ATi now bundles in with their catalyst suite. so if that's the case you'll need to disable the feature in your registry....
