What is wrong with my cat?

He is about 7 years old I would say, and I never really had a problem with him until just recently. Every morning when I wake up there is a little pile of kitty poop sitting on the carpet outside the bathroom door, and I just now found one there a minute ago. He NEVER poops on the floor anywhere else in the house other than his little box. He still uses the litter box some, but now he has turned the outside of the bathroom into his second one I guess.

Is there anything I can do to stop it?

How often do you clean his litter box? If it's been a while, maybe he's sh!tting on the floor out of resentment.

I just recently put clean litter in there. I clean it out pretty regularly, so I'm not thinking this is the problem.

Hmm, maybe something's physically wrong with him? Can you take him to the vet and have him poked and prodded?

Sounds like he's trying to tell you he can't open the bathroom door, but would really rather use the toilet. isn't that obvious?

slick230 is correct. You need to take your cat to the vet.

He cannot jump on your lap and say "hey Daddy, I don't feel so well" so he is doing what he knows will ge your attention. This is his way of telling you that something is wrong. So, if you have not recently got a new cat, or baby or made some other changes that he upset over... he is telling you that he is sick.

🙁

My mom's 13-year old cat started doing that a few years back, often intentionally as a way of showing annoyance at her human slave, err "owner."

can't beleve nobody thout of this. stick another cat box right on top off the spot hes crapping on. keep in mind he could of sprained a paw or something and it hurts him to get in and out of the box. are you sure he is actually crapping and just not dropping nuggets? my desiree has a hairy butt that needs to be trimmed every now and then or else a turd will get caught in the fur and just randomly fall off some place. maybe hes getting to old to get in and out of the box. desiree is 12 years old and was having a hard getting into the box so i built her a little handicap ramp up to the entrance.

KarenMarie is right.
It probably has a urinary tract infection.
Make sure the little pooper has plenty of water. Watch what it's eating and try to give it something more bland.
Once they start that crap it's hard to get them to stop. Rubbing their face in the poop is fun, but not very effective.

OrganizedChaos has a very good idea. I would also consider a trip to the vet if the cat hasn't been in a while.
