What is wrong with eating dogs? (from NPR)

i just heard this report on NPR about some Koreans eat dogs and some french whore were protesting it.
now.. what is wrong with eating dogs?

many people eat things that i'd consider disgusting but that's their culture. just like hicks eat pig feet. or africans eating insects.

people here eat lobsters when they don't really need to eat lobster to survive. or another example veal. which is quite delicious so don't tell me where they came from.

People are just to hung up on pets. Listen to this story as an example.

My roommate bought a ferret against my wishes. So when she left for classes I busted into her room. I affixed him to the backside of her door with a sharp object. Next I stripped down and put on a pair of her underwear. When she came home and enetered her room, I was sitting at her desk putting makeup on myself in her underwear. I got up and started doing my impression of a velociraptor (ala Jim breur style) and stormed out. When she shut her door she freaked out when she saw the ferret. Maybe she freaked because underneath it in lipstick I wrote "I think you got a defective one".

*sigh* people flipping out over animals, what ya gonna do?

I think it just has something to do with the cultural bond many westerners develop with their pets... in many other cultures, this is far less common, so there's not as much of an objection.

ah.. the "pet" factor...

but people have viet-cong pigs in this country and they become sweet-sour pork the next day...

then there are pet fishes and they become sashimi ichiban,

then theres horse and they become french steak tartar

then there pet birds and BBQ bird on a stick (southeast asia)

then there's pet iguana and the reason they found out it taste like chicken.

but that's the thing... they have 'farms' that breed dogs for food... they don't eat their pet. (maybe in north korea, but that's beside the point).

that's like people from india starts to bad mouth USA because people here eat beef.

I love dogs, but I can tell you from a logical and intellectual standpoint (i.e without emotional bias) that there's nothing wrong with eating any animal. Cultural differences are all it chalks up to. It would be horribly hypocritical of me to lash out at anyone who eats dogs while I sit here with this juicy hamburger in front of me. The only difference between cows and dogs in the western world is just that dogs are "cuter" (aren't we so infatuated with appearance). In India, methinks you'd find that people would sooner kill a dog and eat it than a cow.

But do I want someone eating the dog that lives in my house? No... just the same I wouldn't eat anyone's pet chicken (heh... Little Jerry springs to mind) either. There's nothing special about pets other than the bond humans form with them. Now, if it were a time of crisis and/or famine it might be a different story, but best deal with that when and if it ever happens.

superfluousmonkeys: Get committed. Seriously. If you're telling the truth and your method of dealing with the situation was to kill her pet, you need some anger management. First of all, the ferret did not make your roommate buy it, it was innocent in this. Second of all, you did nothing to remedy the situation directly (dealing with the problem itself. ie, your roommate), all you did was harm an innocent creature (something that could get you fines or even jail time for cruelty to animals, which I hope you get, you deserve it if what you say is true). Thirdly, people who can do such cruel things and have no remorse are simply scary. I wouldn't be suprised to see you in a headline where you killed a bunch or people because the guy in the cubicle next to you coughed too much one day.

And you stripped down and put on her underwear. Psycho much?

I seriously hope you're post was done in a jest of poor taste and was not a true reflection of your actions.
