Ok, I understand that WOL stands for Wake On Lan, but I'm not sure if I really need it. This is my story...I'm going to setup a LAN Party connecting 6 PCs. If I want to access my friend's computer say..Computer "A", and his computer is turned off, then with WOL feature, I can turned his computer ON and access it right? Is this what WOL for??
Please correct me. Because I have to buy NIC cards soon and not sure to buy with WOL or without WOL function.

How do you use your WOL function????

Yes, that's what WOL is for. The motherboard must support it, though. All new ones do, but many older ones don't. There's a little cable that runs between the NIC and the motherboard, and you configure the ability in the BIOS.

you need to send "special" signals to that NIC to turn it on.

i've never used it though my NICs and mobos support it.
