I've been looking at 2005-2006 Mustang GTs, and I think you'd have to be stupid to pay these prices. We're talking $15000 for a 9 year old car with 70-100k miles. The Blue Book value of a 2006 Mustang GT is $18k. Seriously, just a few thousand less than a car that's a decade newer. Do buyers of these cars not realize that for maybe 33% more money they can get a current V6 model that is brand new, almost as fast, much more efficient, and wrapped in a new body with better safety features? Not only that, but this year the new sportier Mustang with IRS is coming out!
S197s have insane resale value. Fbodies are faster but are almost all ratted out broken down junk by now, GTOs have insane resale too and good luck finding one stock, all the 350z in that age range fell apart long ago, c5s have no backseat electronic problems and cavalier interior... ect.
They arent the fastest but they handle amazingly, have extremely impressive fit & finish, nice interior and aside from one or two things very reliable. Its a no brainer there is huge demand for them.
New v6 would be just as fast with a set of gears... but the aftermarket doesn't compare yet to a 3v. That $6k difference between a used GT and a new v6 buys you a FRPP 50 state legal whipple kit. Whos faster now?
EDIT: Also, you're looking to buy at the WRONG time of the year. Price will drop even a couple grand around fall/winter. Spring & summer have a serious premium.
Like the color but those wheels look very plain. Take a look at that passenger door panel too, it looks like the "leather" is coming off the panel in a couple spots.
Common problem with them. Pull the 'leather' insert part down all the way and there is a fabric between it and the door foam. Using your fingers the fabric balls up and falls off so you get a clean surface between the insert and the foam. A little contact cement later and you'll never have the problem again.
