BarrettJackson/picker/reseller fever is infecting EVERYTHING.

The ones you see for $15k are guys that probably bought up one listed for $11k within seconds. With enough "flippers" doing this it props up prices and you'll never see one for less.

What?

http://www.inventory.ford.com/deale...n/1ZVBP8CF6D5277549?zipcode=37201&segment=Car

There's a brand new GT for 27k in my area. They're 30-40k if you fill them full of options.

Yeah, I know. Before going to the local Ford dealership's site I checked MSRP.

The local dealership's site has two GT's one was right at $40K, the other at $45K. Because this is a less populated area, I expect prices to be higher than in big cities. But it could also be that the base model lacks too much and you have to go with (expensive) options to get a decent car, or that demand is high and they can ream you for it. IDK.

Also, when I see MSRP I'm a little suspicious. They always seem to tack on extra charges, e.g., delivery charges and whatnot.

I've been looking at 2005-2006 Mustang GTs, and I think you'd have to be stupid to pay these prices. We're talking $15000 for a 9 year old car with 70-100k miles. The Blue Book value of a 2006 Mustang GT is $18k. Seriously, just a few thousand less than a car that's a decade newer. Do buyers of these cars not realize that for maybe 33% more money they can get a current V6 model that is brand new, almost as fast, much more efficient, and wrapped in a new body with better safety features? Not only that, but this year the new sportier Mustang with IRS is coming out!

S197s have insane resale value. Fbodies are faster but are almost all ratted out broken down junk by now, GTOs have insane resale too and good luck finding one stock, all the 350z in that age range fell apart long ago, c5s have no backseat electronic problems and cavalier interior... ect.

They arent the fastest but they handle amazingly, have extremely impressive fit & finish, nice interior and aside from one or two things very reliable. Its a no brainer there is huge demand for them.

New v6 would be just as fast with a set of gears... but the aftermarket doesn't compare yet to a 3v. That $6k difference between a used GT and a new v6 buys you a FRPP 50 state legal whipple kit. Whos faster now?

EDIT: Also, you're looking to buy at the WRONG time of the year. Price will drop even a couple grand around fall/winter. Spring & summer have a serious premium.

Like the color but those wheels look very plain. Take a look at that passenger door panel too, it looks like the "leather" is coming off the panel in a couple spots.

Common problem with them. Pull the 'leather' insert part down all the way and there is a fabric between it and the door foam. Using your fingers the fabric balls up and falls off so you get a clean surface between the insert and the foam. A little contact cement later and you'll never have the problem again.

So spend $22,200 on a new base model V6 and be done with it.

I haven't been "trash talking" Mustangs. I've been saying that Ford is stupid for giving the car a solid axle in the year 2005 to save $200/car. I've always said I wanted to buy one, that's specifically why it annoys me that they didn't give it a modern IRS since it's such a good car in every other way. It's still one of the only options for RWD in the $10k price range.

Your imagination is failing you again. There are a large number of RWD options in the $10k range. At least a dozen different RWD cars can be had without much fuss for $10k. Including other pony cars.

The first time you get an itch to do an exhaust mod, you'd kick yourself for buying a V6. The first time you start thinking about ways to squeeze out some real power, you'll hate yourself for buying a V6.

Yes, the new V6 is extremely impressive, but the trend with cars like this is people lamenting that they wish they had sprung for the V8. And, just to put it out there, it's almost always more expensive to do a V6 to V8 swap than it is to just trade for a V8.

AFAIK the only option is a BMW that's a few years older. You aren't going to find any other pony car for that price.

Get a Cobra and be /done for now and forever

This.

When I bought my 05 GT, they had a Mystic 2004 Cobra Convertible in the showroom for the same price as my GT (iirc). I wanted the new style so I bought the '05. BUT, I wish I had of waited 2 more years and bought the 2007 Cobra.....that's what my wife keeps telling me when I bring up the 2013 Cobra.

The problem with V6 is they dress them to look like a GT

Also, it's a V6.

The early S197 Mustangs looked so boring in V6 trim, like the car was "unfinished" or something. Then came the Pony Package which gave you little fog lights and some exterior trim.

Autotrader turned up a number Camaro SSs, Camaro Z28s, and Charger/Charger R/Ts at $10k and under asking price. Some are higher miles, some are pretty decent.

If you're just looking for fast+RWD there are many, MANY, more options with a $10k budget.

I can't stand the F body. If I wanted a car with massive front overhang and 60% of the weight up front I'd buy a Toyota Camry. Good luck finding a Charger with a manual

F-bodies are around 55/45-56/44 (depending on model), 05+ 4.6L Mustangs are 54/46. Oh what a difference!

Although I will give him the overhang, as that is his opinion.

My only gripe is that half my motor is under the dashboard...
