What is with bright color shoes?

I see people wearing bright orange, red, green, and yellow shoes. Very bright often neon like color shoes. When did this get into such popular style?

We're returning to the 80s apparently. I tried to buy new shoes the other day since my old ones were wearing out, and the aisles were just full of horrendously tacky, garishly-colored shoes.

I have a pair of bright yellowish/green and a pair of red boat shoes. Loud colors also go great with a pair of khakis and a bright shirt.

I suck at attention whoring. All my clothes are earth color, all my cars are black or close to black. Bright colors scare me.
