I am running Win98 (not SE). I have recently added an ISA sound card to my system and now I am getting the message each time I boot up about "New hardware found" and Win looks for drivers for "wave device for voice modem". It does not find it in several locations- (i) I have downloaded and installed the drivers for the sound card several times, (ii) I have updated my modem drivers, (iii) I have tried looking for the drivers on the Win98 installation CDROM.

What is the wave devide and where will I find its drivers? Can anyone help please?
Thanks.

It seems that your modem is voice-capable. Perhaps a perusal of the cdrom that came with the modem will help.

You have a voice modem. Check for a specific driver on the CD that came with the modem or go back to the manufacturer's site and get the driver from there.

I have tried both the options. First updated the drivers from what I had (those were about 1.5yrs old) then went to the mfr website and got recent drivers. But neither seems to work on this. I emailed the mfr for support, they gave me a link to the same driver page- not much help. I have written them again too.

Thank you.

Went through this with my older Asus P2B. Put in a USR voice fax and it kept prompting me about finding new device. I wound up removing the wave file and modem through device mgr., then rebooted with Win 98SE in and it reinstalled everthing. After making sure all worked ok I rebooted and went in to setup and Disabled P/N play. Now when it boots it doesn't find new device.
