What is VGA error?

I posted this in another thread topic but did not get reply, probably because it got lost under the main topic discussion.

I am building a new system and have just formed a very basic preliminary setup with MOBO, CPU and RAM. I attached them to the stand alone (no casing) power supply and checked to see whether I get a POST.

I switched on the power supply and there is nothing on the video screen and no beeping too! But the fans and everything is working.

I checked all the cables (including the CPU cable). Looked into the MOBO manual and found there are four LED indicators. Two of them got light on when I switched on the power supply. Then I switched on the power button on the MOBO and third indicator was on. But one of them did not light up at all.

MOBO says the particular indicator not lighting up means "VGA error". Anybody knows what is VGA error? Is it because my monitor is quite old?

I disconnected the monitor from the motherboard and still the remaining light did not turn on. So I guess it is an internal MOBO problem. I will highly appreciate any help.

Here are my rig:

MOBO

CPU

RAM

Power supply

Monitor

Try it again after you push the video card in hard (don't break anything). Sometimes it's not seated tightly enough.

Thanks for your reply. I did not put any video card because there is on board video. Do you think I should use a video card?

You shouldn't have to. Did you consult the manual to see if there was anything you had to do before booting it up?

Check the back of your power supply to make sure it isn't on the 2xx setting.

Is the 4-pin power connector plugged into the motherboard? (The additional one after the 20/24 pin main power)

VGA error is generally when either a video card contact is not flush (Which in your case is impossible since you have no video card) or the signal from the video cable is not contacting. For example, turning on a computer without a monitor attached will usually turn on normally and then hang, before it goes into Windows.

Other than that, try putting in a spare video card if you have it laying around and try again. If that fails, try plugging in your monitor to another computer.

If those two fail to solve the problem, last but not least check to see if your RAM is installed flush. Half installed RAM also causes no beeps but system hang problems.

Failing all the above I don't know what to say 🙁

Thanks a lot for these suggestions.

Power supply setting is fine. 4-pin power is also connected.

I will try to find a video card and see what happens. In the mean time anybody else has any idea?
