What is Vbox 4.3 protection?

I was looking at windows explorer and found a folder called VBOX in my Windows directory. I do not remember installing anything by that name. It is version 4.3 and is some kind of protection. It must have been installed when I installled something else. Do I need it? Do I want it? How did I get it? Any help in finding the answers would be appriciated.

VBox is a delivery system for, usually, software purchased online and then downloaded.
