What is Usnet?

google is your friend. And what is more: this is the goddamn general hardware forum! Not only are you too ignorant to have even the most basic notion of what usenet really is but you are too stupid to read! Shame on you! Gold member my ass...

Someone please move or lock this thread.

Usenet is a heirarchy of distributed discussion forums, dating to the early 80's. It is not located or centralized anywhere, and it is nothing like Kazaa.

you can read the text groups at google. binaries you'll need a new provider, either your isp or another firm. and a newsreader like agent or x-news. i like x-news cuz its free and works pretty well. i was with newsguy cuz it was cheap, but the speed blew goats. so now i'm with newsfeeds. more pr0n than you can shake a stick at 😉

you already have a newsreader if you are running windows, outlook express is a newsreader, and if you use mozilla/netscape, there is one built into that also.

Usenet is basically newsgroups. It is the cause of many IBM hard drive failures. How many times has someone used their Newshosting.com or Giganews.com connection to find a ton of movies ready to fill up a 60gb IBM 120gxp only to find the drive crap out somewhere around the 40 gb range? (4 that I know of) So, stay away from usenet and the prog called Grabit! unless you have a drive other than an IBM and a cable or dsl connection.
