I've got 2 macs and 10 ipads using one account to share photos. Today I got a warning that I'd run out of space.

icloud

This is strange because every device is set to not back up (exactly so as to avoid filling icloud with backups) and if you look in icloud there is only 50ish MB of data in keynote/pages etc etc.

Yet in the pic above there is a yellow bar called backups taking approx 1GB and stopping my photos syncing to all devices. I've tried deleting deleted photos which gave me an extra 200mb to work with but I can't work out what the yellow backup is for.

Any help would be most appreciated.

EDIT: Weird photo behaviour replaced with link.

I had an issue similar to this a while back.

When I upgraded from an iPhone 5s to an iPhone 6s, iCloud kept a backup of the iPhone 5s on iCloud. I passed on the 5s to my mother after a factory reset. However, for some reason, my backup of the 5s remained on iCloud, even after I moved to the 6s and after my mother started using her Apple ID on the 5s.

The only way to resolve it was by talking to Apple tech support. It was a pretty long and evolved process because there were a lot of privacy concerns involved -- Apple had to go into my iCloud account, search for the encrypted iPhone 5s back up and remove it.

In the end though, they managed to locate and remove the old 5s backup.

Thanks. I got hold of their @AppleSupport twitter account. Had a response within 30 minutes which after some normal back and forth resulted in their suggestion I call apple support and talk to a tech in person.
