What is up with this laptop's screen?

For several months now my laptop has had this line across the screen (about two pixels tall) come up whenever I open the lid. But until recently I could get rid of it by tilting the screen slightly one way or another, so it didn't really bother me. But now it's on there good, nothing but squeezing the back of the panel gets rid of it, and then it comes back as soon as I let go. This is a two year old Dell E1505, and I've used it every day that I've owned it. Do all laptops do this sooner or later, or does this Dell just suck?

Dell doesn't suck (although of course they do) - the manufacturer of the panel sucks. I'd say you're not gonna get this fixed for less than the price of a new laptop.

If squeezing the back of it used to make the problem go away, I would assume the ribbon cable connecting the monitor to the board is loose.

If you know how, take off the bezel and the top cover to see if re-seating the cable helps.
