So, I was on MC website and on the front page they were selling Samsung Evo 750 drives for about $10 less for 120/250GB versions. These are targeted at the discount channel, I think, but what about them is bad over the 840/850?

I was thinking of buying a couple of the 250GB ($67/ea) for cloning the wife's iMac internal HDD.

Well, they're Planar TLC, like the 840 Evo. Not so good for longevity, and some people complained about read slowdowns for "stale" data. (For the 840, I haven't heard any reports about the 750 Evo yet.)

Edit: OTOH, they're Samsung drives, and generally, they are worth the slight premium over cheaper similar models.

The 750 Evo series are Samsung's first stab at the "Budget" market for SSD's. Starting with 120gb and 250gb drives. Samsung has now introduced a 500gb model. Like Virtual Larry said, using the inferior Planar TLC, and probably a Firmware update, the 750 evo doesn't have the longevity or endurance as the 850 evo. The 120gb 850 evo is no longer in production, I wouldn't be surprised if the 250gb 850 evo won't be in production much longer...
