What is up with that overused cat meow?

You always hear it in movies, on commercials (generally commercials for movies), etc...

It's that one noise where it sounds like the cat meows as though it were in distress...and it's always the EXACT same one.

Anyone else annoyed with this?
 
It's not funny though. It's never funny when cats get hurt...there's nothing funny about it. I'm not a feline sympathizer, but it's just plain not funny.
 
Here's another overused sound for you. Do you remember the original DOOM game where you would get nailed with a rocket or die horribly in acid? The guy would make this short, shrieky kind of scream. I hear that ALL THE TIME - usually in stupid commercials on TV.

How about all the DOOM sounds in general? The opening door sound...the rocket launcher shooting sound...the grunts...hear them in cheesy movies and tv shows all the time.

Yes! That's another one...and then the looooong honk as it drives off into the distance...
