What is up with smaller new cases not having 5.25" drive bays?

I am pretty sure my Lian Li P-50 is the last case I will ever buy, as this machine is only serving 30-40% of my computing needs. I have a fan controller in one of the 5.25" bays, the rest have those slick grilles. I mounted my 2.5" SSDs with zip ties and called it a day, never need an optical drive on this system. Even my lappy has only had to spin discs a few times, and I am on the fence about replacing it with a caddy to put my 1.5 TB HDD back in it.

My external BW, (which I bought for a long gone netbook) collects dust as I move past optical discs. With NAS and streaming, I have no need for it.

I love my P-50, and have plenty of space to accommodate it, but have never used it's 5.25" bays for anything besides the fan controller. The case is great for big video cards, and it stays plenty cool, it has never had an optical drive, though.
