What is up with Rav4 drivers?

I've noticed they drive really aggressively. They are always speeding and tailgating. I normally wouldn't write about this until I finally saw one get into an accident 3 cars in front of me nearly causing a row of us to slam into them.

Anyone else notice this? Is it because the SUV is fast and easy to drive that people drive this way? I usually see a lot of people driving aggressively but I've noticed this behavior particularly from Rav4s.

Around here RAV4 drivers are usually older. Drive really slow. Turn even slower. They also are only conscious of what's directly in front of them. Seems like they don't like their mirrors or peripheral vision.

Well it does take off like a rocket with the V-6.

Rav4 used to be a weak little girl's vehicle. It got some balls recently with the 3.5L V6. Maybe they traded in their weak one for a new one and they are just cashing in some pent up retribution and making up for all those years of being laughed at.

A few years ago, the V6 Rav4 was the second fastest in the Toyota lineup, bested only by the Avalon.

My mom (60) got the V-6 a couple years ago. She liked the practicality of a small, efficient SUV but was tired of having to wait to merge with traffic. She's extremely careful when she drives it because the thing is so strong she's almost afraid of it.
As for the average driver, I do think its a bit too much power for such a small, relatively flimsy car. You need a lot of discipline or you could easily roll it or crash into someone.

Of course, in general I am not happy with the popularity of SUV's among housewives these days. Making a tiny, unwieldy one doesnt improve the situation.

AFAIK it was the fastest vehicle. From what I see online the Avalon is about 7.1 sec 0-60, and the RAV4 is 6.1 sec. Only the Camry (which came out a year later) is faster 0-60.

From the company that brought us the turbo Supra and MR2, that's pretty sad.

The Rav 4 is still probably the quickest 0-60 in a Toyota, as it launches on all 4 wheels.

True!

I didn't know that the RAV4 was so fast. That really must explain it. Although my car is still faster, I have a newfound respect for it's speed. I wonder how the braking on it is though considering I saw one get trashed on Saturday.
