i keep on getting these messages from people telling me they "keep on getting error messages" and when i go to check, they've only tried once to do the task or something. wtf would you lie? if i didn't like my job, i'd have a good mind to call them on it! grrr.

I love it when I tell them over and over to reboot and make sure it's not resource related, when they call to complain, did they ever reboot.. they reboot and then it works fine :disgust:

ahaha.... my friends down in tech support get similar ones except they go "are you SURE you rebooted?" like 10 times, and eventually it turns out that they were lying about rebooting. this kind of behavior just baffles me. are these people just compulsive liars or what? do they not trust our knowledge? i just don't understand. some of them are hostile about it too. yeesh.

<< telling the truth takes too long >>

i could understand if that were the case, but seriously, would it take that long to go "i got an error message" instead of "i keep on getting error messages"?

Some people have a need to overdramatize everything.

Where I work we tell them to "Ride the Bull". That is, hold the power button for 8 seconds. They get a laugh out of it and the computer gets a reboot.

If that doesn't work we tell them to "Shut up and reboot!"

People do this to me too. To reset an account for a particular program we use, you have to shut the computer off. Completely off, not rebooted, not log out, shut down - which is exaclty what we tell them. If you try to reset the account and the pc isn't shut off, it won't work. I guess this isn't very clear to them because they always tell me it's off and then after asking them five times I can hear someone in the background saying 'ok, it's off now' They always act as though they've never had to do this before. :disgust:

Where I work, when you tell them to "log out" they think you mean go to Oregon or something.

They have no clue what it means.
