What is up with my Computer!?

I cant connect to some games, but can with others. Is it possible that hardware is blocking my internet signal?

Such as Diablo 2 will connect to servers, but battlefield 1942 and the downloadable game Soldat wont. I try them on my brothers laptop, and they work perfect. WTF?

I just got DSL today, and am now having trouble with these games, but not on my brothers laptop.

OK, I apologize for my noobishness, but I have had A LOT of trouble with my computer lately. Apparently, Sygate Personal Firewall started up with out me ever knowing it. There was no icon on the bottom right telling me it was on, and no pop-up came up asking whether I wanted BF 1942 or Soldat to access the internet, so I never knew it was blocking the signal.
I was tipped off to this because the windows firewall was turned off, but the windows security center said there was still a firewall turned on. Ugh.

you want a firewall on at all times. An unprotected system will be infected in an average of 4 minutes otherwise. Just allow the games permission through the firewall.
