esp. the downtown pittsburgh area?!

holy cow those people are crazy.. I didnt see a single red light that at least 2 people didnt run. People just stop in the middle of the road (sometimes intersections) and park. But, aperently (according to the locals) becuase they had thier flashers on, it was legal..

I'm surprised i didnt see at least 30 people get run over-- becuase cars just go flying everywhere around each corner-- and honk and honk and honk.. i was just like "shut up... your horn isn't going to get you there any faster"

oh-- and the speed limit! AHAHA. i was driving there, taking the turnpike-- i was averaging about 10 over the speed limit the entire time, I didnt pass a single car, but rather was passed by everyone. Its as if the law actually is to drive the limit, plus 20... (and all the "targetted enforment areas"... ha... what a joke.)

anyhow-- other than that-- i had a great time. Never been to another city quite like it.

and, is it true what they say about the water there?

Philly is just as bad. I swear they will give anyone in PA with an IQ above 20 a license without so much as asking them if they even know what a car is.

PA drivers are horrible. I don't think they take road tests, they just hand out licenses...

No, their road tests are somewhat thorough. 3 point turns, etc. I grew up about 2hrs north of pittsburgh. I once drove through downtown pittsburgh on fourth of july night after the fireworks without my glasses though. So it shouldnt be too bad with me gone.

but seriously, PA is no where near as bad as massachusettes.

I live in Pgh right now and, yes, the drivers suck.

Aside from everything already mentioned, there is this annoying thing called "the pittsburgh cutoff" When you are at a red light waiting to go straight and someone opposing you needs to go left, as soon as it turns green that person will gun it and cut in front of you. If you get out there before him, although you have the right of way, you will get honked at and, depending on the whether it's warm enough to have the windows down, a few choice words will probably come your way.

As far as the water, someone I knew in law school was interested in environmental law and once told me that up until a few years ago it was recommended that no one eat more than one fish per year from any of the surrounding rivers.

I think people take pride in their city when they say their city has the worst drivers or the worst traffic. I've been in downtown Boston for about 7-10 days and the drivers suck and the traffic is bad, but it wasn't THAT bad. However, lots of people there were saying that it's horrible, the worst, etc.

NJ drivers are agressive, but they know exactly what they are trying to do. PA drivers are just blithering along not paying attention to anyone or anything. I try to make a mental note of license tags everytime somebody does something stupid and I would say 85% of the people running stop signs and red lights, stopping unnecessarily at yields, misusing or not using their turn signals, going the wrong way down one way streets, etc, are from PA. And that's when I'm driving in NJ (duh :) )

I once joked that when you take drivers' ed in PA, they give you a NJ drivers' manual and say "Do the opposite of this."

Pennsylvania has some of the most bloody roadkill I've ever seen. It was like a warzone driving through. Blood was sprayed all over the interstate. Bloody animal corpses everywhere. Quite large ones too!

I'm from Alabama... I guess our locals maybe pick up the roadkill to eat :)

I live in Erie, a few hrs north of Pittsburgh. I'm telling you, PA drivers SUCK. I was bookin 75 down I-90 (55 limit) today, and I was still geting passed. My best friends car got totaled because a trucker was in the left lane (two lanes, no shoulder. Generally accepted as two turn lanes, though occasionally people think theres just an obscenely large shouler. State cleared this up with arrows now) without his turn signal on, half turned left. Friend pulls up beside him, going to turn right. Trucker also decides to go right, he ran the rear two wheels of his traler over my friends hood, punched it and took off. Police deemed it the truckers fault, since he didnt have a signal on, but they never caught him anyway.

I agree, except I don't want to be confused with that type of person.

I hate Pgh. I only came here for school and hope to leave sooner than later. I just have to get more job experience and I'm gone.

When I say the drivers are bad, I guess it's probably more their attitudes. People have problems letting you merge into traffic, taking turns at stop signs, yielding, etc. and I think it's because most of them aren't very bright and feel they're giving up something or showing a weakness if they're polite on the road. It's not their driving, it's their third grade attitudes that make them suck.

Thats funny I just got back from Lancaster county PA and we took the turnpike, same conditions out there I was doing 75 and still geting passed. I have been driving through PA for many years and never seen them driving like that before.
