What is up with credit checks for cell phones!

That is such BS. I went to Verizon to get a service plan, and they wanted a $175 deposit to hold for an entire year because I fall under no credit.

That is such crap, imo. Though I completely understand why they do it. I don't want to pay the deposit because other dead beats can't pay there bills.

I guess I'll just have to bend over and take it. AT&T is the same way.

because they are giving away 200 dollar phones and trying to make the money back in a 1 year service agreement. if u have bad credit, you have a higher risk of not paying the bill in the future.

AT&T requires an $800 deposit if you're under no credit.... It's a 1 year deposit. And people actually pay it?

Everyone (cellular phone companies) go through a credit check. Why? Because you might rack your bill up to $5k and end up not paying! You would be suprised at how many people do that! There are tons of unresponsible people out there. I can't stand people like you who get angry because you have bad or no credit. Do something about it, either fix it or build it.

You must not have any credit. I'll tell you what you can do. Either take out a personal loan from a credit union for $1000.00. Use that money and pay back $200.00 for five months. After your initial five months you'll be able to obtain a phone with no deposit as long as you paid it on time and had no late payments.

One more thing, you get your deposit back after one year of perfect payment history.

Just buy you a phone off EBAY and you will not be required to make a deposite

That's what I did

And what service did you use? Magic Wireless Airways? You need service. They aren't doing the credit check for the phone itself. They're doing the credit check for the service because you might just be a dead beat who will rack up a bill and never end up paying it.

Darn why am i replying all these times???

I am subscribed with SunCom and since I had my own phone when I started service, a deposite was not required.

T-Mobile is a $500 deposit if you have no credit.....ouch.....

Actually they have somethign for people with little to no credit. It's called a T-Smart Access plan. You pay a $75.00 activation fee, and you pay for the phone which can be free up to $199.99. It all depends on the phone you want.

You are limited to a $150.00 spending limit which means that if your bill accumilates up to $150.00 your line will be shut off until you pay the $150.00 down to around $100.00. It's for your own good type of deal.

Are you drunk or stupid?

If you get it it's not really such crap is it? 😉

I will agree it SUCKS, but I understand why they do it. You could get pre-pay but that's not likely to be very useful for you. I had zero credit two years ago when I moved to the US, so I feel your pain.

Btw, quick jab at capital one: FVCK YOU CAPITAL ONE YOU'RE NEVER GETTING MY BUSINESS!!!

When I was working at Circuit City I had this one customer who paid $800 deposit for her cell phone activation & plan. Usually people just walk away but she didnt. FYI, Sprint PCS has the minimal amount of deposit required, $150 if you have bad credit or $250 if you have no credit or worse credit.

Simple way would be get a credit card, make some small purchases on it and pay em off on time.

You should be able to build up enough credit to get the phone in a couple of months.

If not that, then have someone put one in their name and get one for you.
