What is Truform?

I've noticed an option for TRUFORM in the ATI driver settings and I was wondering what it does for some time but didn't bother asking till today. Anyone want to tell me what it is?

makes figures look realistic, but i hear it kills performance. i heard that it is in the software in the 9700 instead of the hardware like the 8500. is this true?

R3xx cards (the 9800 included) don't support truform in hardware, the CPU does the work. so it doesn't really matter if you have a 9500 or 9800pro, your performance will be shot down, how much depends on your setup.
I find that in current games it makes gameplay unplayable, which is a pitty.

While trufom is nice tech I'd have to say to not bother using it. The performance hit is high and it's much better to simply crank up the game detail levels instead of using it.

TRUFORM in Morrowind looks great (trees and rocks, etc), but you can only use it with an 8500. Anything other card and the FPS hit will kill the game.

WHY THE HELL IS IT HARDWARE ON A 8500 AND NOT ON A 9500-9800? Talk about regression, it doesnt make any sense! :disgust:

As gregor said, possibly die space and heat problems. There hasn't been much demand for this either way and AA and AF are what people are looking at using right now with all the details cranked up to the max. I don't think they will implement it until their is a greater need, but it is a nice feature to have.

Hi,

I was wondering if the 9100 handles Truform in the hardware?? Curious because I just ordered one today to replace my 7500.

thanks,

Chappie
